Don Quick took office as the District Attorney for the Seventeenth Judicial District in January, 2005. Colorado’s Seventeenth Judicial District includes Adams and Broomfield Counties and has a population of nearly 500,000 residents. The District Attorney has offices in both Adams and Broomfield County.

The District Attorney’s Office is the largest law firm in Adams and Broomfield Counties with fifty attorneys and a total staff of 140. Each year the office handles over 30,000 traffic and misdemeanor cases, 1,000 juvenile cases and 3,200 felony cases.  Don Quick served as the 2006-2007 President of the Colorado District Attorney's Council.

Don Quick has over 20 years of prosecution experience with the District Attorney’s office and the Colorado Attorney General’s office. Don Quick tried over 100 jury trials and has argued and won cases before the Colorado Supreme Court.

From 2002 to 2005, Don Quick served as the Chief Deputy for Attorney General Ken Salazar. As the Chief Deputy, Don supervised the 330 attorneys, investigators and staff of the Attorney General’s Office. This involved thousands of criminal and civil cases, as well as legal advice to all state agencies. The diverse issues involved everything from grand jury indictments to drought and water responses.

Don Quick was first appointed in January, 1999, by Attorney General Ken Salazar to supervise the Criminal Justice Section of the Attorney General’s Office. This included supervising all of the prosecutions within the Attorney General’s Office: Capital Crimes, Gang Prosecutions, Foreign Prosecutions, Securities Fraud, Medicaid Fraud, Insurance Fraud, and Complex Crimes through the use of the statewide grand jury. Don also supervised the Criminal Appellate Division. Finally, he assisted in the formation of the Attorney General’s initiatives concerning criminal justice in areas such as peace officer standards and training, youth and gang violence, domestic violence, victim services, and environmental crimes.

Prior to joining the Attorney General’s Office, Don Quick was a Chief Trial Deputy with the District Attorney’s Office in the Seventeenth Judicial District. He prosecuted all types of felonies and served on the Domestic Violence Task Force. Don led the effort to establish the first Colorado District Attorney Fast Track System for the prosecution of domestic violence cases. He also chaired the North Metro Gang Task Force and helped implement juvenile initiatives concerning truancy and early intervention on juvenile offenders with the use of a community/restorative justice board.

Don has served on a number of state committees involving Witness Protection Funds, Victim Services, Juvenile Justice Grants, School Crime Stoppers Programs, Domestic Violence Policies, and Mental Illness and Substance Abuse Policies. Governor Bill Ritter has appointed Don Quick to his Transition Team, the Criminal and Juvenile Justice Commission, and the State DNA Task Force.  Governor Owens appointed Don to serve on the Columbine Review Commission, the Governor’s Advisory Team on the Jon Benet Ramsey case, and the Sex Offender Registry Task Force. Don also represented the Attorney General on the Joint Anti-Terrorist Task Force and was a member of the Secretary of State’s Blue Ribbon Election Panel.

Don has been a trial advocacy instructor for numerous National Institute of Trial Advocacy programs and at the University of Colorado School of Law. He has served on the boards of non-profit organizations serving the homeless and senior communities. He has served on the State Board of Directors for both D.A.R.E. and CrimeStoppers. Don Quick also is a past president of the Adams County Bar Association and served on the Board of Governors for the Colorado Bar Association.
